Tahitian versus Hawaiian: The Battle of the Noni

Noni, as the Hawaiians call Morinda Citrifolia, has become the center of debate between the picturesque islands of Tahiti and Hawaii. The main issue is which of the two produces better Noni juice and other Noni-based products. Noni tree grows extensively in these two areas though it also thrives in other places especially in Southeast Asia.

The Claims of Noni Products from Hawaai

The Hawaiians can claim to have offered the first Noni-based product in the market with the production of the encapsulated Noni pulp powder in 1992. This was when the company Herb’s Herbs was able to get the patent for a technology in the dehydrating of the raw materials from Noni. Several years later, the Noni juice using the process of fermentation used in the olden time came out in the market though it was through another company based in Hawaii. This pioneering effort of the Hawaiians brought them to the forefront of the manufacturing of Noni-based products.

Of all the islands in Hawaii, Maui is considered to be the main source of Noni juice. The Noni-based products from Hawaii boast of the highest standards in its production starting with its cultivation in a land with the least amount of contaminants present. It is said to be handpicked just like the way it was harvested in the past. Furthermore, the polysaccharides found in the said merchandise from Hawaii are higher according to its manufacturers thus making it more potent than the ones from Tahiti which is said to have been infused with water and other fruit juices.

Tahiti’s Rebuttal

According to the producers of Noni juice and other Noni-based goods from Tahiti, though those from Hawaii may have been out in the market longer, theirs has a much better quality. Tahiti, at present, is the largest source of Noni juice.

Their contention is that the Noni trees found in Tahiti are grown in an unspoiled environment as opposed to those in Hawaii whose lands have been over cultivated causing it to produce Noni products of lesser quality with fewer nutrients. Furthermore, the Noni juice from Tahiti can stake the claim to the recognition from the European Union’s regulatory board and has been listed as a novel food.

Tahiti’s production of mainly Noni juice is in keeping with its belief that it has more nutrients than the capsule form whose manufacturing process lessens its potency. It is also said to have the largest and longest existing research facilities which continues to study the benefits and the efficacy of the Noni juice. It has also has the support of experts in field of researches on Noni tree.

Hawaii versus Tahiti

Though both lay claims on the different innovations and the quality of the Noni-based products particularly the Noni juice each respective place, both also agree on the benefits of its regular intake. The quality and the efficiency of the Noni juice will still be determined once it has been approved and recognized by even more regulatory bodies especially those in the US and only then will the consumers know which is more superior, the Noni juice from Hawaii or from Tahiti.
